1) Go to http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads and download this patcher.
What this actually does is to change the maximum number of your Lan Card’s connections to 50 instead of the Windows original which was 10.Much much better!
2) Tweak some things! http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
This small program helps a lot tweaking preferences….Simply download the TCP Optimizer and then set all to “Optimal Settings. This allows you to change various parameters of your connection such as MTU and your Selective Acks. As simple as that does everything automatically.
3) Use Mozilla
Ok Firefox rules, IE sucks big time…but although it is a much better Web Browser it can be tweaked to achieve an even better performance and make your Web Surfing a real joy-ride. A very useful add-on for Firefox is Fasterfox, a plug-in that speeds up your web experience by utilizing the idle time of your network. In simple English, it goes on downloading in a low rate anything that can be pre-cached on a web page without you worrying about it, and all this while your internet line stays idle, so as not to slow you down while web surfing. But next time you click on a link it will be much faster loaded that the normal. Fasterfox can be found on : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269
I recommend the default options but enabling the Enhanced Prefetching in the Fasterfox tab.
4) Other things you could do to tweak you Firefox are the following ones: a. Enter ‘about:config’ in the address bar. b. Set ‘network.http.pipelining’ to ‘true’ c. Set ‘network.http.pipelining.maxrequests’ à 28. d. Create a new line by right-clicking anywhere and selecting New-> Integer. Rename it as ‘nglayout.initialpaint.delay’ and set it to zero.
5) Use direct download sites instead of .torrents whenever able!
We all know .torrents are the best to find some stuff everybody needs. Although sometimes our downloads become extremely slow. This happens for a variety of different reasons such as:
-Small number of seeders that have the torrent
-Low ratio of our account in a torrent site
-Limited upload speed of the seeders that give you the file. Even if you are connected to 100 users, if they give you data in a rate of 0.1Kbps it really really sucks.
So…what you do about it? It is easy! You try to find what you are looking for in a direct download page such as RapidShare. You simply go to google, write <“what I want” rapidshare> in the search box (without the <>s ) and you’ll surely find your stuff in the resulting pages. This actually allows you to use your internet line to it’s full potential, since a direct connection to download a file is most of the times faster and with less speed fluctuations than using torrents.
Hope these few tricks helped a little. ![]()
